Who would have thought it? From 'Guys and Dolls' to 'Dollar' and more recently 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here', the irrepressible pop icon DAVID VAN DAY now turns his beautiful voice into croon magic on this passionate romantic ballad 'A BIG SHIP ON THE MERSEY' written by John Bryan.

Imagine the circumstances that could lead to a Brighton-born, new romantic teen idol, turned jungle clown and politician, singing an ode to a famous harbour, more associated with the Beatles. What is the connection? Over a quarter of a million people out there already know!!!

In the 90's, audiences swooned to David's brilliant performances in the mega-hit musical 99 HEYWORTH STREET. David played the romantic lead, Lawrie Baldwin, a sailor who falls in love with the tragic Sheila O'Reilly. He captivated audiences every night with his performance of 'Big Ship on the Mersey' and has always held a great passion for the song. He could not wait to be the flagship artist on the first release from the show, which is hopefully soon to become a movie!

All those who hear this beautiful ballad will understand that there is a 'time' for songs to be heard globally.....the time is right for this song. There was certainly a 'special aura' that surrounded David when John Bryan, composer of '99 HEYWORTH STREET' and writer/producer from the band SUBTERRANEAN, took him back to the original Brick Lane Studio to record the song, ironically the same studio where TREVOR HORN produced so many of DOLLAR'S hits. There was something special about that spring evening, when creativity flourished once again and the vibe and magic returned, as David sang like never before, giving one of his most heartfelt performances ever. David had come home to the place where so many hits with Dollar and Trevor Horn were born.

John Bryan's dream of David singing his song on record was fulfilled that day on his first visit to Brick Lane. John has always said that there was only one voice he had wanted for this song and had waited patiently while David's various career moves had transpired, at one point wondering if David was ever going to survive his jungle ordeal, cringing at every moment as he fought through the snakes, spiders and rapids. David pulled through and entertained millions with his infectious personality. Those who voted for David in their masses got it right and saw the truly unique and sensitive human being that he is.....

A truly professional pop artist whose charm has always come through!!!

David now enters a new phase in his long-running career, and he is now able to be discerning about the quality of songs he chooses to sing. The early test pressings of A BIG SHIP ON THE MERSEY were greeted with excitement by all including friends from the press, radio and tv...and there are great expectations of David achieving his first solo number one single.

After hearing this, we believe that David will achieve something only Scousers have previously achieved, in totally revitalising the global interest in one of the most beautiful harbours in the world.

The latest exciting news is that Producer Colin McKeown from LA Productions, along with his award winning crew, has produced a superb promotional video for the single.

Colin has enjoyed success and acclaim with the series LIVERPOOL ONE, the movie LIAM and more recently the brilliant BBC drama MOVING ON and has provided David Van Day with a spectacular video filmed on the Liverpool bay, Sea rescue ships and the spectacular surrounding harbour.

After seeing the musical show 99 HEYWORTH STREET on the stage, Colin was moved by the raw energy of this moving, true story and immediately wrote personal letters to the theatre and press, singing its praises.

Audiences have always held a special place in their hearts for A BIG SHIP ON THE MERSEY. The song has always had a special effect on people and smiles and tears have ensued wherever it has been performed.

All concerned with the launch of this song, including David, believe that this is the beginning of a new dream, to take Heyworth Street and "Big Ship" to the top! But which top?

As John Lennon once quoted, before the rise of The Beatles: "To the very top".

'A Big Ship on the Mersey' is released through Cherry Red Records on 13th October 2009 and is now available on download.

Await, listen and enjoy............
